@ButlerVB Wins Tournament With 3-2 Victory Over Ball State

INDIANAPOLIS – It took all five sets on Saturday night, but the Bulldogs were able to take the tournament crown with a 3-2 win over Ball State (25-15, 25-12, 22-25, 19-25, 15-6). Butler ended the BU-BSU Tournament with a 3-0 record. Natalie Ravenell, Whitney Beck and Anna Logan were all named to the all-tournament team with Logan earning MVP honors.
 
Four Bulldogs reached a double figure kill total against Ball State with Logan and Beck sharing the team lead with 14 each. Brooke Gregory was in the box score with 12 and Ravenell impacted the match with 10. Both Logan and Beck notched double-doubles with Logan adding 17 digs and Beck tallying 13. The team leader in the digs category was junior Rachel Schultz (22).

Action at the net belonged to Butler as the Bulldogs recorded 12.5 team blocks compared to just four for the visitors. BU hit .264 as a team while Ball State came in at .135. 
 
Butler jumped out to a 10-4 advantage in the first set to take a commanding lead. Six different Bulldogs were credited with a kill at the first stoppage with Ball State calling an early timeout. BU never slowed down as they pushed the lead to 20-12 and would go on to win 25-15. The 'Dawgs hit .345 in set one compared to just .077 from the Cardinals. Blocks also favored the home team 4-0.
 
Set two was nearly a repeat of set one as Butler opened up a 17-6 lead before a Ball State timeout. The stoppage didn't work as Butler pushed ahead 23-10. The Bulldogs led from start to finish and would head into the break leading 2-0 after a final kill from Beck.
 
The Cardinals made some adjustments for the third set and were able to stay alive by posting a 25-22 win. Momentum stayed with BSU in the fourth. They led a majority of the way to knot the match at 2-2 with a 25-19 win.

The fifth and final set belonged to Butler with the Bulldogs leading from start to finish. Logan posted four kills and four digs in crunch time helping her earn MVP honors. Butler jumped out to a 7-2 lead and would switch sides of the court at 8-3. The outcome was never in question with Logan providing the team with back-to-back kills and Gregory pushing the team to match point with a kill. Action would come to a close after a BSU service error, 15-6.
 
Butler will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 20 when they host Marquette in the 2017 BIG EAST home opener. First serve is slated for 7 PM.
