The Butler women's tennis team opened the 2017-18 campaign with a 5-4 win over Indiana Wesleyan in a fall scrimmage held in Marion, Ind. The match was played Saturday afternoon.
Bailey Padgett picked up a win at the top singles spot, defeating Alex Mella, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman
Lauren Marx and
Nina Bertino won matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles spots as Butler and host IWU split six singles matches.
Butler took two of three doubles matches, as
Jordan Minnick and
Lauryn Padgett won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles over IWU's Olivia Reed and Thewuni Devaraja. The freshman combo of
Emily Neal and Marx defeated Marissa Klein and Laura Moore, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot.
The Bulldogs are next in action Sept. 16, traveling to Greencastle for the DePauw Invitational.
