@ButlerVB Takes Second at Michigan Invite

Box Score

Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Bulldogs ended the 2017 Michigan Invite with a 3-1 victory against New Hampshire (13-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16). BU is now 5-2 on the year after the opening two weekends of competition.

Whitney Beck and Taylor Takeda each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after helping Butler finish as runner-up. #19 Michigan won the invite with a perfect 3-0 record. BU went 2-1, Green Bay 1-2 and New Hampshire 0-3.

Beck came up with yet another double-double performance in the win on Saturday night with 14 kills and 13 digs. She was the only Bulldog to reach a double figure kill total.

A second double-double went down in the box score with Makayla Ferguson stepping up with 33 assists and 10 digs. Takeda once again led the team with 17 digs and freshman Natalie Ravenell chipped in with 11.

Action at the net also favored Butler as the Bulldogs posted 11.5 team blocks compared to just three from New Hampshire. Bri Lilly paced BU with five, Rachel Klitzing was right behind her with four and a trio of Bulldogs tied for third on the team with three each.

Butler came out flat in the first set allowing New Hampshire to post a 25-13 win. The Wildcats finished the opening set on a 10-3 scoring run.

Momentum would shift back to Butler in set two as the Bulldogs would even the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 win. A 4-0 run gave BU an 18-10 lead and that eight-point advantage would hang on the rest of the way.

The pivotal third set was close at the start, but another 4-0 run would give Butler some breathing room. BU broke a 7-7 tie with four-straight points off a Brooke Gregory serve. New Hampshire kept it within four at 18-14, but the Wildcats wouldn't get any closer.

BU would once again jump out in front midway through set four. A 5-1 scoring run would push the score to 20-13 and force a New Hampshire timeout. The Wildcats only managed to record eight kills in the fourth set, one more than they claimed in the third. The BU defense up front was too much for them to overcome.
