INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler volleyball team lost their BIG EAST home opener to Marquette in three tight sets (21-25, 21-25, 20-25). The team now drops to 10-3 this season. Bri Lily led the team with 10 kills and three blocks at the net for the Bulldogs.
Marquette out-hit the Bulldogs by posting a .269 attack percentage, Butler ended the contest at .158. Marquette also had five aces between three sets with the Bulldogs only tallying one. The Bulldogs held their own at the net with 38 kills, only six behind Marquette's 44.
Anna Logan joined
Bri Lilly with a double figure kill total. The junior posted a team-high 11 to go along with two blocks and two digs. Freshman
Natalie Ravenell had a solid all-around game with nine kills, seven digs and three blocks.
Both the first and second set were kept tight by the Bulldogs who began the first set with a 5-1 run and the second set with a 4-0 run capped off with a kill by Ravenell.
Makayla Ferguson was another key player for the Bulldogs posting a double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs.
Defensively, the Bulldogs were missing starting libero
Taylor Takeda who traveled home for a family emergency. Marquette edged out the Bulldogs with 50 digs compared to the Bulldogs' 39.
The Bulldogs look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Xavier for another BIG EAST matchup.
