Schickel Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Setback to St. John's

INDIANAPOLIS – St. John's outscored Butler 25-13 in the fourth quarter to secure a 73-55 road win at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. The setback moves Butler to 11-6 on the year with a 3-2 mark in the BIG EAST. St. John's moves to 10-7 and are now at .500 with a 3-3 conference record.

The fourth quarter told the story in this one as St. John's used an 8-0 scoring run to take a 58-44 lead. The Red Storm would add two more field goals after a BU timeout to take complete control of the outcome.

The silver lining for BU came in the third quarter as junior center Tori Schickel reached 1,000 career points. Schickel needed 15 points to become the 22nd player in Butler women's basketball history to join the 1,000-point club. She made four field goals against St. John's and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the charity stripe to end the contest with a team-high 19 points.

Butler shot just 38 percent from the field as a team and lost the rebound battle to STJ 35-29. Schickel was the only Bulldog to reach a double figure scoring total. Iman Lathan and Shae Brey each scored eight and Kristen Spolyar was close behind with seven. Spolyar hit Butler's only 3-point field goal of the night. A shot that came late in the fourth quarter. St. John's was equally as bad from long range shooting 2-for-16 from distance.

St. John's built their lead off the break and in the paint. They scored 12 fast break points and came up with 21 points off 20 Butler turnovers. The points in the paint battle also favored the visitors 44-26.

Butler will look to get back on track this weekend. They play at Marquette on Friday, Jan. 12 and end the weekend with a contest at DePaul on Sunday, Jan. 14. The game against DePaul will air on CBSSN at 4:30 PM.
