CHICAGO – The DePaul Blue Demons hit 12 3-point field goals to secure an 87-65 victory over Butler on Sunday afternoon.
Whitney Jennings was responsible for all three of Butler's makes from 3-point range. She ended the game with a team-high 18 points.
Jennings shot 7-for-16 from the field, including 3-of-6 from long range. She added five assists and two rebounds to her stat line in 38 minutes of action.
Tori Schickel was in the box score with 17 points and eight rebounds while
Michelle Weaver ended the game with 12.
Weaver found her groove in the second quarter. After a scoreless 10 minutes in the first, Weaver connected on all four of her field goal attempts in the second frame to net 10 points. Jennings had seven at the break while Schickel chipped in with seven of her own. The scoring total after 20 minutes was rounded out by
Iman Lathan with four.
Lathan would end the game with six points and four boards.
Shae Brey and
Sydney Buck each hit one field goal and
Kristen Spolyar would come off the bench to add eight.
BU shot 45.9 percent from the field, but just 21.4 percent from 3-point range. DePaul hit 47.8 percent of their shots and would end the contest 12-for-36 from distance.
Turnovers impacted the game for each team. DePaul forced 24 BU turnovers to score 19 points off Butler miscues. The fast-paced game also featured the Blue Demons turning the ball over 17 times. Michell Weaver led all players with four steals.
Butler will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse for four-straight home games to close out the month of January. Creighton will visit Indianapolis on Friday, Jan. 19. The following contest will match Butler up against Providence. That game will mark the midway point of the conference season.
