INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs notched a 66-48 win against Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon to move their overall record to 11-5. Butler outscored Seton Hall 40-18 in the second half to post their third-straight conference win.
The player of the game for the Bulldogs was sophomore
Kristen Spolyar who returned to action today after missing the previous contest with an illness. Spolyar didn't miss a beat in her return by posting a game-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She hit two 3-point field goals and also helped BU on the glass by pulling down seven rebounds.
Butler's rebound leader was once again
Tori Schickel. The junior center just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Schickel was also in the box score with three assists and three steals.
Joining Spolyar and Schickel in double figures was junior guard
Whitney Jennings. A slow start to the game for Jennings included just two points on a pair of free throws, but she got going in the second half to end the contest with 11.
Shae Brey scored a season-high nine points for the Bulldogs while
Michelle Weaver and
Iman Lathan each added seven.
BU crushed Seton Hall on the boards 41-25 and shot 47.9 percent from the field compared to just 26.4 percent from the Pirates.
The first half featured back and forth action until Seton Hall closed the second quarter with back-to-back 3-point field goals to take a 30-26 lead into the half. JaQuan Jackson hit the first triple and Inja Butina would follow with a trey the very next possession.
Jackson scored 10 points over the first 20 minutes of the game, but would be shutout in the second half allowing Butler to increase their lead. BU won the third quarter 22-8 and coasted to victory by outscoring Seton Hall 18-10 in the fourth.
Slowing down Donnaizha Fountain was another key to victory for Butler. Seton Hall's leading scorer coming into this contest was held to just two made field goals. She finished the game with six points on 2-for-10 shooting.
Butler's lead moved to 10 points in the final seconds of the third quarter after a 3-pointer from Jennings. That triple was part of an 8-0 scoring run that covered the final 2:35 of the quarter.
The 10-point advantage would increase to 19 points midway through the fourth quarter after a Schickel jumper and the Bulldogs would cruise to victory to remain undefeated in 2018.
Butler will return to action on Wednesday night with a 7PM tip vs. St. John's. The game will air live on FS2.
