About the Opponent

The Blue Demons are currently tied for fourth in the BIG EAST standings at 2-2-1. The Blue Demons own wins over Seton Hall and Creighton, with their losses coming at the hands of Georgetown and Xavier. Marquette and DePaul played to a 0-0 (2OT) tie on Oct. 4. Franny Cerny leads the team in goals (7) and points (16). She also has two assists on the season. Mollie Eriksson has seen every decision in goal for the Blue Demons, making 44 saves with a .99 goals against average.

Last Time Around

The Red Storm used two goals by Zsani Kajan to take the 2-1 decision over the Bulldogs last Sunday. The redshirt-sophomore gave St. John's a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute off a penalty kick, before Butler freshman standout Anja Savich scored her seventh of the season from distance to level the score four minutes later. Kajan used some fancy footwork to bury the go-ahead goal in the 57th, while Red Storm keeper Meredith Reinhardt made a game-saving stop on a Paige Monaghan penalty kick with less than 13 minutes remaining. Reinhardt finished with three saves while Monaghan had four strikes. The Bulldogs maintained their spot in second place.

A Season Ago

The women's soccer match between Butler and DePaul ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw in Chicago.  Butler came up with the first goal of the contest just 2:41 into the match. Caitlyn DiSarcina scored her team-high sixth goal of the season off an assist from Kyra Cooke. The 1-0 lead would not last in this match as Butler gave up just their third goal all season to DePaul at the 16:22 mark. Franny Cerny broke away and found the back of the net, unassisted to pull DePaul even at 1-1. Each side saw multiple scoring opportunities through the remainder of the contest, but the score would never move away from 1-1.

In the Polls

The Bulldogs are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll this week (10/9), after being left out of the rankings for three weeks. Butler's best ranking in the poll came in week three of the season (9/4) when they were ranked No. 22. The Bulldogs' current NCAA RPI came in at 50 this week. The lowest RPI Butler has seen is 37, a week ago.
