The Bulldogs competed in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., over the past few days.
Nina Bertino picked up a series of wins in the B Flight, knocking off Belmont's Mical Johnson (7-5, 6-3) and sixth-seeded Natalie Moyer of Xavier (6-4, 6-2) before falling in straight sets to Maddox Bandy of Lipscomb.
In consolation play Saturday morning, Bertino pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 win over IUPUI's Mariella Pessina.
Also in the B Flight, freshman Sara Linn pushed Hannah Davies of Memphis to a third-set match tiebreaker, before falling 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (6). However, Linn turned around and topped Anna Maria Reynolds from Wright State, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Sarah Monesmith defeated Jemima Potter of UT-Martin, 7-5, 6-3, in the consolation round of the A Flight. Monesmith dropped her opening match to Ball State's Rebecca Herrington, 6-0, 6-4. Polina Goloputuva of UT-Chattanooga also pulled out a 6-1, 7-6 win over Monesmith in the consolation bracket.
Sophomore Emily Neal battled Miami's Milana Lysova to a third set in her opening match, ultimately falling, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. On Friday, Neal lost to Middle Tennessee State's Marta Perris Herraro by a score of 6-4, 6-3. UT-Chattanooga's Caroline Hall knocked off Neal, 6-3, 6-0, in Saturday's consolation play.Â
Butler's doubles teams dropped four total matches over the past few days.
The ITA Regionals served as the team's final event of the fall season. The Bulldogs open spring dual match play Jan. 18 against Cincinnati.
