INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs dropped to 5-13 on the year after taking a 3-0 setback to Georgetown on Friday night (21-25, 22-25, 21-25).
Brooke Gregory led the team with nine kills and a pair of blocks.
Gregory hit .350, but the 'Dawgs only managed to post a .154 attack percentage as a team. They would once again win the blocks category (10-5), but only 27 assists would lead to 29 overall kills.
Maddie Freiwald and
Megan Ramseyer split time at the setter position. Freiwald led the team with 14 assists while helping out with three blocks. Ramseyer ended the night with eight assists, three digs and two blocks.
The block leader was
Bri Lilly with five. The standout senior also supplied BU with four kills and three digs.
Elizabeth LaBue and
Emma Milstead were also steady defensively with seven and six kills respectively.
Rachel Klitzing and
Natalie Ravenell would combine for 13 kills. Ravenell would enter the game for
Shay Horn after Horn exited the contest due to injury.
The first set was decided after a 5-1 Hoya scoring run that pushed the scoreboard to 19-15. The Bulldogs would call for a timeout and get back within two at 21-19 but the comeback effort fell short 25-21.
Klitzing connected on five of her six attempts to post a .833 attack percentage in the opener.
Brooke Gregory would add three kills and Ravenell collected two.
A late scoring run would tell the story in set two as well with Georgetown taking a 20-14 advantage on a 7-1 scoring spree. Jessica Cusi kept her serve alive and would build the cushion. A kill from
Rillian Dennis would stop the streak, but the Bulldogs would fall 25-22.
The third set would feature Butler jumping out to a 3-0 lead, but the score would eventually come to a tie at 9-9. A 6-0 Georgetown scoring run would give the Hoyas a 17-11 edge leading to the 3-0 sweep. Alyssa Sinnette came up with four of her match-high 15 kills in the third. She hit .242 vs. Butler and also led her club with three service aces.
Butler will return to action tomorrow night with a 6 PM match vs. Villanova.
