@ButlerUWBB Wins Big vs. Western Illinois


INDIANAPOLIS – Butler improved to 3-0 on Saturday afternoon with a 92-51 win over Western Illinois at Hinkle Fieldhouse. 12 of the 13 Bulldogs that played scored at least one point and the Bulldogs would finish the contest shooting 53 percent from the field as a team.
 
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter and would enjoy a 38-16 advantage at the half. The lead would grow to 41 points near the end of the third quarter with BU winning that frame 28-11. 26 more points from Butler in the fourth would take the team to 92 total, the highest scoring output under fifth-year head coach Kurt Godlevske.
 
Tori Schickel was one of five Bulldogs to hit double figures in scoring. She came up with a team-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Kristen Spolyar would end up with 14 points and Whitney Jennings would add 10. Each player recorded four steals to help BU force 26 Leatherneck turnovers.
 
Freshman Emilia Sexton came off the bench to supply BU with 11 points. Three of her four field goal makes came from 3-point range. Ashanti Thomas was another Bulldog to give Coach Godlevske a big boost off the bench. The center scored 10 points and pulled down seven boards in 15 minutes of action.
 
Jamilyn Robinson and Naira Caceres also impacted the game for the Bulldogs. Robinson hit two 3-pointers to help her net eight points. Caceres went 3-for-4 from the field for seven.
 
The Butler bench outscored Western Illinois 44-18. Every Bulldog was sharing the ball with Butler collecting 23 assists on 36 made field goals. They shot 10-for-15 from the line and ended the contest with 10 made 3-pointers.
 
Butler will take this momentum into their next game against UMass Lowell. The early noon tip will go up on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
