Scouting UMass Lowell
UMass Lowell is 2-2 on the year with wins over Saint Peter's (59-57) and Fisher College (79-45). They lost their season opener vs. Bryant by a single point and are coming off a 63-54 setback at Cornell. Graduate transfer Briana Rudolph led the team in scoring their last time out, posting 14 points on 5-of-15 shooting. She is the second leading scorer on the team next to Katie McKie who averages 10.3 points per game. The River Hawks led 17-13 after the first quarter but would be outscored 18-11 in the fourth. The best all-around game belonged to Ren'Cia Rolling. The 5-2 guard pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds while adding six points, five assists, two steals and one bock in 37 minutes. Rolling now leads the team in both rebounds and assists.
Big Wins for the Bulldogs
Butler won four games a year ago by 20+ points. After the first three games of 2018, they have wins by 35, 21 and 41 points. BU ranks second in the BIG EAST in scoring offense (83.3) and leads the conference in both scoring margin (+32.3) and field goal percentage.
Be Consistent
Butler has shot 52.9 percent from the field in each of the last two games because they have made and attempted the exact same number of shots. BU went 36-for-68 in the win over Murray State and they shot 36-for-68 in the following game vs. Western Illinois.
Great Start
Butler is 3-0 at the start of the season for the second-straight year. The best start in BU history came in 1990-91 when Butler won their first 10 games of the year.
Hustle Points
Every member of the Butler starting five grabbed at least one offensive rebound in the win over Western Illinois. They won the hustle categories across the board by recording more rebounds (+26), steals (+10) and blocks (+4). BU scored 15 second chance points and won the fast break comparison 20-4.
Sarah's Stat Line
Sarah Humphrey set new career-high totals in assists, blocks and steals vs. WIU. She recorded three assists, three steals and three blocks in 11 minutes of playing time.
Fantastic Freshmen
Emilia Sexton and
Jamilyn Robinson combined for 19 points in Butler's win over Western Illinois. Sexton scored a season-high 11 points by knocking down three 3-pointers. Robinson was in the box score with eight points after hitting a pair of triples.
Ashanti Goes All Out
Ashanti Thomas scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds vs. Western Illinois, setting season-high totals in each category. The 6-4 center has helped Butler lead the BIG EAST in rebound margin (+19.3).
Steady as She Goes
Kristen Spolyar shined in multiple areas against the Leathernecks. She scored 14 points while adding four assists, four steals, three rebounds and a career-high two blocks.
Chase for 50
Head Coach
Kurt Godlevske now has 48 career wins at Butler. He has a chance to reach 50 by the end of the week with games lined up vs. UMass Lowell and Illinois State.
Schickel Climbs Scoring List
Tori Schickel reached 1,000 career points on Jan. 10, 2018 against St. John's to become just the 22nd player in Butler women's basketball history to reach 1,000. Schickel now ranks 11th on the all-time scoring list with 1,288 career points. She is now 32 points away from 10th place on the list which is currently held by Sarah Schuetz (1,320, '94-'98).
