@ButlerUWBB Moves to 10-1 with 73-63 Win vs. Eastern Michigan

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Butler jumped out to an 11-0 lead on Friday afternoon and never looked back to post their 10th win of the season. The 73-63 victory over Eastern Michigan signaled the end of the non-conference schedule. The Bulldogs will celebrate the holiday and then kickoff the conference slate at Villanova on Saturday, Dec. 29

Katherine Strong set the tone in the win over EMU by scoring the first six points of the game. The Bulldogs would continue to feed the hot hand as Whitney Jennings took over for the next five points.

Eastern Michigan tried to kill the momentum by calling a timeout, but the damage had already been done. After the media timeout, Tori Schickel would get involved to score Butler's next five points. Backup center Ashanti Thomas would then take her turn with the final five points of the first quarter.

BU won the first frame 21-11 and opened the second quarter on a 14-2 scoring run. Kristen Spolyar got going in the second quarter to net seven of her 11 points. She was one of four Bulldogs to reach double figures in scoring. Schickel and Michelle Weaver tied for the team lead, scoring 15 points each. Point guard Whitney Jennings would supply BU with 13 points by hitting all three of Butler's shots from behind the arc.

Jennings did her damage from the outside, but a majority of Butler's offensive success came in the paint. The Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 46-14 on the inside. EMU was able to tighten the game up by hitting nine 3-point field goals. A majority of those came late in the contest.

Danielle Minott hit five of Eastern Michigan's nine 3-pointers in the game. She poured in a game-high 21 points in the setback.

Butler's defense limited the Eagles to just 32 percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs however, shot 47.3 percent by making 26 of their 55 attempts.
