@ButlerUWBB Wins BIG EAST Opener at Villanova 63-55

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Butler outscored Villanova 20-8 in the fourth quarter to come back and post their 11th win of the regular season. Tori Schickel led Butler with a team-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Schickel knocked down 10 of her 15 field goal attempts to help Butler outscore Villanova 36-12 in the paint. Katherine Strong was another high impact player for the Bulldogs on Saturday night. She finished the game with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

Butler got off to a great start and would lead Villanova 21-11 after the first quarter. Schickel got touches early to score the first six points of the opening quarter. The Bulldogs would end the period on an 11-0 scoring run to build their lead.

Butler shot 64 percent from the field in the first quarter, but that number would switch to just 16 percent in the second. Nova made some changes on each end and would take a slim advantage into the half after outscoring Butler 19-7 in the second.

Jannah Tucker, Kelly Jekot and Adrianna Hahn combined to score 28 of Villanova's 30 points at the break. The Wildcats opened the game shooting just 2-of-10 from 3-point range, but they were able to double that production in the second quarter to connect on 44 percent of their looks.

The Bulldogs went six minutes without a point in the second quarter which led to the 30-28 Nova lead at the half.

Villanova would add two more points to their lead after an exciting third quarter. Mary Gedaka came up with seven of her 10 points in the third frame, while Katherine Strong kept Butler within striking distance with seven points in the third.

The outcome was decided over the final 10 minutes with Butler once again getting the ball inside to Schickel. The talented senior scored eight points in the first quarter, but a double team kept her scoreless in the second. Schickel bounced back with four points in the third and dominated down the stretch with 10 fourth quarter points to place Butler in the win column.

Schickel scored the first eight Bulldog points of the fourth to give the team a slim 51-50 lead.

Nova would jump back in front moments later after a 3-point field goal from Tucker, but Michelle Weaver would match her with a corner three with 2:26 left and the Bulldogs would never look back.

Schickel added two more points on the next BU possession and free throws would seal the road win.

Butler will return to action on Monday afternoon with a 1 PM game at Georgetown.
