@ButlerUWBB Wins at Georgetown 59-50

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Butler improved to 2-0 in the BIG EAST Conference, and 12-1 on the season by recording a 59-50 road win at Georgetown on Monday afternoon. The outcome marks Butler's first-ever 2-0 start to league play.

Whitney Jennings highlighted the game with 23 points, four assists and three rebounds. 12 of her game-high 23 points came in the third quarter.

Jennings supplied the scoring in the victory over the Hoyas, but great overall team defense would help BU prevail. The Bulldogs limited Georgetown to just six points in the fourth quarter. They erased a three-point halftime deficit in the third and would outscored Georgetown 11-6 over the final 10 minutes.

Butler dished out 15 assists on 20 made field goals and dominated the glass to win the rebound battle 46-25. Offensive rebounds broke down to 17-4 with Butler's Shae Brey collecting five on the offensive glass. Brey led all players with 12 rebounds. She ended the road trip with 24 total boards.

Kristen Spolyar just missed a double-double with 15 points and eight rebounds. Tori Schickel was also important in the final outcome with eight points and seven boards.

Michelle Weaver spent most of the afternoon shadowing BIG EAST Player of the Week Dionna White. Weaver limited White to just 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting. No other Hoya would reach a double figure scoring total.

White picked up two personal fouls in the first quarter, but a balanced Hoya attack would give the home team a 19-14 lead. Georgetown shot 50 percent from the floor in the first and went on two separate 7-0 scoring runs.

Game adjustments in the opening stages of the second quarter would shift the momentum of the game and give Butler a one-point lead at 25-24. BU went on an 11-0 scoring thanks to a full-court press defense. The Hoyas would eventually rebound to grad a three-point cushion at the half.

Butler continued to dictate the speed of the game in the third quarter to win the frame by seven points. Jennings had seven in the second quarter and went off for 12 more in the third. Three of her four made field goals from 3-point land would also come during this time.

White would hit a 3-pointer in the fourth to get Georgetown within a single possession, but that shot was matched by Kristen Spolyar on the next trip down for BU. Spolyar's triple pushed the lead back to six and the Hoyas wouldn't get any closer.

Butler will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse this weekend for a pair of games against conference foes. They will host Seton Hall on January 4. The weekend will come to a close with a 1 PM game vs. St. John's on Sunday, Jan. 6.
