INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler couldn't hold off a balanced Marquette offense and fell to the Golden Eagles 78-59 on Senior Day. The Bulldogs move to 13-14 on the season with a 5-10 mark against conference opponents.
The Bulldogs started the game with a 10-4 lead capped off with a
Whitney Jennings three. A layup from
Shae Brey would increase Butler's scoring run to 8-0, causing Marquette to take a timeout.
From the timeout, Marquette went on a 7-0 scoring run of their own and were within two of the Bulldogs at the end of the first quarter. Jennings had seven of Butler's 16 points.
Marquette would own a 33-24 lead at the half thanks to 6-0 run to begin the second quarter. The Golden Eagles took the lead 24-20 at the first media timeout.
From there, Butler would only score eight points in the second quarter. Marquette's Danielle King had 10 of their 18 points and ended the half with 13.
The beginning of the third quarter started off slow for the Bulldogs with the Golden Eagles scoring the first seven points.
Tori Schickel answered with six-straight points of her own but the Bulldogs ended the third quarter trailing 57-40.
Butler would come within nine of Marquette after a
Sydney Buck three but the Golden Eagles kept them at arm's length to close out the game.
Four Golden Eagles ended the game with over 10 points. King led the offensive attack with 25 points, Allazia Blockton added 19. Marquette out rebounded the Bulldogs with 44 total rebounds compared to just 24 from Butler.
For the Bulldogs, Schickel posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Michelle Weaver added 13 points and Jennings had 12.

Iman Lathan,
Kaela Hodges, and
Sydney Buck were recognized prior to tip-off in honor of Senior Day.
Butler is on the road for their final three games, travelling to Providence on Friday. Tip-off is set for 7PM. Trips to Creighton and Xavier will wrap up the Bulldogs' regular season.
