PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bulldogs posted a 69-48 victory inside Alumni Hall on Friday night against the Providence Friars.
Michelle Weaver scored a season-high 20 points in the victory.
Butler (14-14) took control of the action after outscoring Providence 22-8 in the second quarter. The Friars led by two after one, but
Tori Schickel would get Butler going with six-straight points in the paint in the second frame. Schickel would end the game with 12 points, seven rebounds and a team-high six assists.
Schickel helped BU score 30 points in the paint, but her ability to pass out of a double team was the difference tonight. Butler shared the ball well by assisting on 14 on their 25 made field goals. They shot 39 percent from 3-point land (9-23) with five 3-point field goals coming in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The Friars cut the BU lead to just nine at 49-40, but the Bulldogs would respond with three-straight from long range.
Whitney Jennings set up in the corner for the first three and Weaver would follow with her third triple of the game. The nail in the coffin would follow with Jennings hitting her fourth 3-pointer of the game.
Jennings was in the box score with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists. The fourth Bulldog to reach a double figure scoring total was
Kristen Spolyar with 13 points. Spolyar jumped into the starting lineup and also supplied BU with seven boards and three assists. The BU rebound leader was
Iman Lathan with 10.
Butler will return to action this Sunday with a 2PM tip at Creighton.
