Butler ventured East and picked up its fourth win of the season with a 6-1 defeat of Rhode Island Friday evening. It capped a 1-1 day for the Bulldogs, who lost a 5-2 decision to Bryant earlier in the day.
 
Against Rhode Island, the teams of Rachel Sutton and Emily Neal and Lauren Marx and Natale Corrigan picked up 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point for Butler.
 
The Bulldogs followed with five singles wins, including straight-set wins by Bailey Padgett (No. 1), Nina Bertno (No. 4) and Marx (No. 5). Neal completed her 2-0 match with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Ariel Haber at the No. 3 position. Rhode Island defaulted on the sixth court.
 
In the first match of the day, Padgett and Sutton posted wins at the top two singles spots, but Bryant was able to take the doubles point and singles courts 3-6.
 
At No. 1 singles, Padgett won in a third-set match tiebreaker. She also teamed with senior Jordan Minnick for a win at No. 1 doubles.
 
At the No. 2 spot, Sutton won in straight sets.
 
The Bulldogs continue play out East Saturday with a 10 a.m. match-up with BIG EAST foe Providence.
