LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Bulldogs are 7-0 after winning two more games on Saturday vs. George Mason. BU dominated the first game of a scheduled doubleheader 12-1 and held on for a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
Garrett Christman improved to 2-0 on the year by getting the win on the mound in game one. He tossed 6.2 innings, limiting George Mason to just one run off seven hits.
Kevin Napoleon would strike out the only batter he would face in the contest and the final two innings would fall to
Joe Graziano and
Landen Haney.
Butler clicked on all cylinders at the plate by scoring 12 runs off 11 hits. Eight different players recorded at least one RBI for the Bulldogs.
Gehrig Parker and
Harrison Freed shared the team lead with two RBI each.
Butler broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with two runs off three hits.
Connor Dall recorded the first RBI of the game with a single to right center that scored
Michael Hartnagel. The second run featured Dall crossing home plate after a double from Freed.
Three more runs would come around for BU in the fifth to make the game 5-0. Parker highlighted the frame with a two-RBI double down the line in right. He would eventually score off a sac fly from Hartnagel.
George Mason avoided the shutout with a single run in the sixth, but Butler would slam the door shut with two more runs in the seventh and five in the top of the eighth.
Game two of the doubleheader featured
Ryan Pepiot throwing against Bryce Nightengale. Pepiot threw five full innings, striking out five. He left the mound with the score tied at 3-3. The win therefore would fall to
Connor Schultz who was near perfect in his three-inning outing. Schultz struck out three and only allowed one hit.
Jack Pilcher would come enter the game in the ninth for the save. He has now closed out two games for BU.
Butler jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after the second inning, but a three-run third from George Mason would put the Patriots on top. BU tied the game in the bottom of the third and the final two runs of the contest would come home in the bottom of the sixth for BU to claim the 5-3 win.
The Bulldogs came up with three straight extra base hits in the second to break a scoreless tie.
James Gargano started the streak with a double to left center. He came around to score off a double from Christman. Freed would keep the trend alive with a double to right center that allowed Christman to score easily.
Yet another double helped BU tie the game at 3-3 in the third. Houston led off with a double to left and he would advance to third off a deep fly ball from Parker. Hartnagel would follow in the order and knock a ball back up the middle of the diamond for an RBI.
Gargano would strike again in the sixth with a lead-off single after a George Mason pitching change. He moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and would come around to score off an RBI single through the right side from Christman. The insurance run would feature Christman reaching home plate off a double from Freed.
The Bulldogs will go for the weekend sweep tomorrow at 1 PM.
