@ButlerWLacrosse to Host Vanderbilt Sunday


The Butler lacrosse team will host BIG EAST opponent Vanderbilt Sunday at Varsity Field. The Bulldogs are 1-8 and looking for their first BIG EAST win this season. Vanderbilt enters Sunday's match-up 5-3 and 0-1 in BIG EAST play.

The Bulldogs' offense is led by freshman Ashley Guerra and Captain Haley Hallenbeck. Guerra leads the team in points (23), goals (16), and assists (7). The attacker earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on March 13.

Guerra became Butler's first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after totaling seven points off five goals and two assists in a pair of games. The rookie went for a hat trick and assist against Campbell before tacking on two more goals and a dish at Radford. All five shots she took on the week were goals.

Hallenbeck has tallied 17 points so far this season. She has 13 goals and 4 assists. The midfielder has also caused four turnovers and picked up six ground balls. Morgan Paige and Christina Soderquist are also offensive threats for Butler, each with 10 goals.

On the defensive side, Carly Hewitt leads the team in caused turnovers with 10 and has also picked up 14 ground balls. Mary Davide leads the team in ground balls, picking up 15.

Haley Rayburn (1-5) has seen the majority of playing time in goal for the Bulldogs. She has made 76 saves with a .418 save percentage.
 
Scouting Vanderbilt

Falling to No. 6 Florida 11-10 to open BIG EAST play, Vanderbilt is also looking for their first BIG EAST win this season.

The Commodores have three players with 20 goals or more. Senior Kayla Peterson leads the team in goals with 29 and has five assists. Sophomore attacker Emily Mathewson has a team-high 35 points this season with 27 goals and eight assists. Midfielder Julie Blaze isn't far behind, with 20 goals and five assists.

Melanie Becker is a threat on both sides of the ball, causing a team-high 12 turnovers and picking up 21 ground balls, which is also a team-high. The midfielder has also scored 11 goals with four assists.

Goalkeepers Madison Foglio (2-3), and Lily Argyle (3-0) have both seen time in goal for the Commodores. Foglio has the better goals-against average (9.93) and save percentage (.469), but Argyle has not seen a loss so far this season.

The Bulldogs will continue BIG EAST play on March 31, traveling to Denver. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
