The Butler lacrosse team fell to BIG EAST foe Vanderbilt 17-8 Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs move to 1-9, 0-2 in BIG EAST play. The Commodores move to 6-3, 1-1 with the victory.
The Bulldog offense, led by
Christina Soderquist with a team-high four goals, couldn't overcome a 10-2 setback at the half. The Bulldogs scored six goals in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome the Commodores' lead.
Soderquist got the Bulldog offense going in the first half, scoring on a free position attempt six minutes into the game.
Morgan Paige would score Butler's second and final goal of the first half off a free position attempt as well.
Butler's offense was led again by Soderquist in the second period, scoring just 15 seconds into the half. She would score her third goal of the game just one minute later. Captain
Haley Hallenbeck and
Elizabeth Davide each added a goal for the Bulldogs, assisted by
Kasey Diodati and Paige, respectively.
Soderquist would score her fourth goal of the game, 14
th on the year, with seven minutes to play. Paige scored her second goal of the game two minutes before the final buzzer.
The Commodores were led by Kayla Peterson with five goals and Emily Mathewson with four. Goalkeeper Grace Bell saw her first win in goal for Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs continue BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 31, traveling to Denver. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
