‘Dawgs Win 4-3 at Villanova

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – Butler scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth to post a 4-3 victory at Villanova on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the team to 22-8 overall with a 3-1 record against BIG EAST opponents.

Butler scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Duncan Hewitt got the start behind the plate and would score the first run of the game. Zach Jarosz would make the score 2-0 after touching home plate on an RBI single back up the middle by Jacob Margroff.

Nova came back to take the lead with three runs in the sixth. The one-run cushion wouldn't last however as BU plated two runs in the eighth to win the game. Margroff led off the eighth with a walk and Tyler Houston would single to move Margroff into scoring position.

Head Coach Dave Schrage gave the sign and senior right fielder Gehrig Parker would execute the plan with a sac bunt that moved Margroff around to third and Houston to second. Michael Hartnagel would follow with the biggest hit of the weekend as he doubled to left center to claim two RBI.

Butler posted their four runs on eight hits and went error-free defensively. On the mound, the duo of Ryan Pepiot and Josh Walker combined for a complete game. Pepiot threw the first 5.1 innings, striking out seven and walking three. Walker was lights out over the final 3.2. He kept Nova off the scoreboard while limiting the Wildcats to just two hits.

Butler will go for the series sweep tomorrow at Villanova Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
