In the wildest game of the season to date, Butler overcame a 7-0 deficit to post a 13-9 win over Georgetown Sunday afternoon in the nation's capital.
The Bulldogs took two of three in the weekend BIG EAST series to move to 5-4 in conference play and 15-21 overall. Georgetown now stands at 12-29 (4-7 BIG EAST).
Butler's 13 runs came in just two innings. After falling behind 7-0 after Georgetown scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs responded with five runs in the top of the fifth. Trailing 8-5 entering the seventh inning, Butler scored eight.
The five-run fifth inning included an infield single by
Jenna Foreman that scored one, a two-run single by
Payton Longest, and an RBI double by
Sarah Dixon.
The deciding eight-run seventh included a two-run single by
Sammy Andersen, an
Alyssa Garcia squeeze play that scored a runner, a two-run triple down the left field line by
Jenna Foreman, and a two-run home run to left center by
Kaitlin Doud.
All nine of Butler's starters scored in the game. The Bulldogs had 12 hits and drew seven walks. Foreman had three hits.
Doud started and finished the game in the circle, sandwiched around appearances by
Alyssa Graves and
Gabbi Schnaiter. Doud picked up the win after re-entering the circle for the bottom of the sixth.
Georgetown was credited with 12 hits.
The Bulldogs are next in action Wednesday, taking a mid-week break from BIG EAST play to host Ball State in a non-conference match-up. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
