@ButlerSoftball Drops a Pair at DePaul

The Butler softball team dropped a doubleheader at DePaul on Saturday, falling 6-2 in Game 1 and 4-2 in Game 2. The Bulldogs sit at 20-24 and 7-7 in the BIG EAST, with a single game remaining tomorrow in Chicago.

Butler jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the Blue Devils (29-14, 11-3 BIG EAST) in the second inning of Game 1, but it wasn't enough to hold off the DePaul offense. Sarah Dixon scored off an RBI double from Madi Christiansen, and Alyssa Garcia walked with the bases loaded to score Sammy Andersen.

From there, starting pitcher Missy Zoch (13-4) blanked the Bulldogs for the remaining five innings. Zoch held the Bulldogs to only four hits, striking out six.

Kaitlin Doud (10-7) received the loss for the Bulldogs, giving up eight hits and five earned runs, striking out four. Gabbi Schnaiter came on in relief in the sixth, allowing no hits.

The Blue Demons used a one-run first inning and a three-run fourth to take Game 2 against the Bulldogs. Butler rallied to score one run each in the sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome DePaul's lead.

Doud began the sixth inning with a double to right center and advanced to third on a throwing error. Dixon's sacrifice fly to left field would score her. With the bases loaded in the seventh, Christina Candotti scored off a fielder's choice as Alyssa Lach grounded out to the first basemen.

Alyssa Graves (9-10) threw 3.1 innings for the Bulldogs, receiving the loss. The freshman gave up four hits and four earned runs. Schnaiter came on in relief, throwing the remaining 2.2 innings. She also gave up four hits.

First pitch for Sunday's single game is set for Noon EST. Live stats and video can be found here.
