Kaitlin Doud starred in the circle and at the plate as Butler took a 2-0 win over visiting Creighton in Sunday's series finale in Indianapolis.
Doud came on in relief of Butler starter
Alyssa Graves and registered the win to improve to 6-4 on the season. Doud pitched the final 4.2 innings, allowing only three hits and one walk. She struck out three Blue Jays.
Graves pitched the first 2.1 innings before giving way to Doud with one out and two on in the top of the third. Doud got out of the inning with a strikeout and foul out. Those were two of the Bluejays that were left on the pond on the afternoon as Creighton stranded a total of 12 runners, including nine over the first four innings.
Butler's two runs came in the bottom of the fourth off the bat of Doud. With one out and two runners on, Doud doubled a 1-2 pitch down the left field line to score both
Jenna Foreman and
Alyssa Garcia.
That was one of Butler's two hits in the contest as Doud's double joined a Foreman bunt single, also in the fourth inning. Foreman also stole her 26
th base of the season.
Creighton had four hits and drew six walks, but was unable to push a run across.
With the win, Butler is now 3-3 in BIG EAST play and 12-19 overall. Creighton, after winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader, now stands at 16-12 (4-2 BIG EAST).
Kiele Miller took the loss for Creighton to fall to 7-5 on the season. She allowed both Butler runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Butler returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for a doubleheader with Indiana University. The twinbill is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first pitch. The Bulldogs' next BIG EAST series begins Saturday at Georgetown.
