Butler fell to St. John's in the Bulldogs' season finale Sunday afternoon in Queens, N.Y. The 4-2 win by the Red Storm ends Butler's 2018 season at 20-28.
St. John's improves to 12-6 in BIG EAST play and 24-25 overall. The Red Storm are one of four teams that have qualified for the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament next weekend. Butler was eliminated from contention Saturday.
St. John's took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. The Red Storm extended that lead to 3-0 on a squeeze play in the third inning.
Butler scored a single run in the fifth inning on an RBI triple from
Jenna Foreman. The Bulldogs' run in the seventh inning came off the bat of senior
Alyssa Lach, who homered in her final Butler at-bat. Lach had two of the Bulldogs' seven hits Sunday.
Kaitlin Doud went six innings in the circle for the Bulldogs. She allowed 11 hits, but only two of the four runs she surrendered were earned. Doud struck out five.
Madison Morris got the win for the Red Storm, pitching a complete-game seven-hitter. She is now 13-12 on the season. Lauren Zick and Elyse Morris each had three hits for St. John's.
Sunday's game concludes the 2018 season for the Bulldogs. Butler is slated to return 16 letterwinners next season, a veteran group that will be paired with a talented incoming class.
