@ButlerWLacrosse Named 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad


The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has named 339 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2017-18 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

The Butler women's lacrosse program posted a GPA of 3.448 during the 2018 spring semester and finished the 2017-18 school year with a 3.310 cumulative GPA.

The Bulldogs also had three student-athletes named to the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll: Jordan Fischbach, Carly Hewitt, and Adilyn Smith. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. 

Fischbach, a Healthcare and Business major, served as a captain for the Bulldogs in 2018. The defender started all 17 games and finished her junior season with 12 caused turnovers, while picking up 27 ground balls.

An Actuarial Science major, Hewitt was one of the top defenders for the Bulldogs during the 2018 season. As a junior, she started in 16 contests, causing 19 turnovers and picking up 29 ground balls. She also posted one assist.

Smith is majoring in Elementary Education and also served as a captain for the Bulldogs in 2018. She finished her junior season with two goals and two assists for 10 total points.
