INDIANAPOLIS – The Princeton Tigers recorded a 50-7 victory over Butler on Saturday night the in Bulldog home opener. Butler's lone TD was a pass from
Will Marty to
Pace Temple.
A 63-yard bomb down the sideline gave Princeton a quick 7-0 lead and the Tiger QB would scramble for a 21-yard score on the following possession to give the visitors a two touchdown lead. The opening quarter would come to an end with Princeton on top 17-0.
The second quarter featured the 10-yard TD pass from Marty to Temple, but the Tigers won the 15-minute frame 27-7 to take a commanding lead into the half. A pair of field goals would be added in the fourth quarter to take the teams to the final score of 50-7.
Marty threw for 198 yards in the setback, connecting on 22 of his 34 attempts. Temple was the top target on the outside with 85 receiving yards.
Stephen Dennis also hauled in five catches for 38 yards.
The backfield duo of
Brad Sznajder and
Anthony Scaccia kept busy for the Bulldogs on Saturday night. Sznajder rushed for 63 yards and pulled in five receptions for 22 yards. Scaccia ran for 22 yards on eight carries. He hauled in four catches for 48 yards.
On the opposite side of the ball, BU saw
Luke Sennett record a team-high nine tackles.
Dan DelGrosso came on a blitz to get a sack and he would become one of four players to record a tackle for a loss. The defense held Princeton to 4-of-11 on third down for the game, but big plays in the first half would decide the outcome.
Butler is off next weekend for their bye week. The 'Dawgs return to the Sellick Bowl on Sept. 29 to host Morehead State at 1 PM.
