Scouting Butler
 
The Bulldogs look to rebound from a two-loss week on the road as they open BIG EAST play at Marquette. Anja Savich and Paige Monaghan continue to pace Butler offensively, each with nine points. Savich has the edge in goals with four while Monaghan leads the team in assists with five. Goalkeepers Hannah Luedtke and Leonie Doege continue to split time in goal this season, combining for four shutouts so far.
 
About the Opponent: Marquette

The Golden Eagles (2-6-1) are fresh off a 1-0 victory against Milwaukee on Monday, with Bri Jaeger scoring the golden goal in the 73^rd minute. Marquette began the 2018 season 0-5-1, playing a tough non-conference slate including nationally-ranked Duke and North Carolina. The first win for the Golden Eagles came at Drake on Sept. 9 where they beat the Bulldogs 2-1. Marquette went 1-1 last week, with a 3-0 loss against BYU and the 1-0 win vs. Milwaukee. Carrie Madden is the team leader in goals (2) and points (4) for Marquette. Starting goalkeeper Maddie Henry has seen all but eight minutes in goal, making 51 saves with a 1.86 goals against average.

Series History

The Bulldogs are 3-2 in their last five match-ups with the Golden Eagles. The two teams sit even in regular season match-ups but the Bulldogs own a BIG EAST Tournament win over Marquette in 2015, after previously losing to the Golden Eagles during the regular season.

One Year Ago

The Bulldogs posted their eighth-straight victory in 2017 with a 3-0 shutout against Marquette. Each team came into the contest receiving votes in the national poll, but the outcome would never be in question as Butler scored once in the first half, followed by a pair of goals in the second half. Paige Monaghan notched two goals for the Bulldogs, Gabrielle Lemkuil also found the back of the net.

Big (EAST) Expectations

The Bulldogs were picked second in the BIG EAST Preseason poll behind the Georgetown Hoyas. Butler finished second in the BIG EAST regular season behind Georgetown a season ago, and also fell to the Hoyas in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship. Paige Monaghan and Annika Schmidt were named to the 2018 Preseason All-BIG EAST team, with Monaghan unanimously named the Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year.
