No. 22 @ButlerWSoccer Takes Down Evansville 4-0

The No. 22 Bulldogs remain undefeated at home as they took down the Evansville Purple Aces 4-0 Thursday night. The victory moves Butler to 5-1-0 on the season. Evansville falls to 2-5-0.

Butler used two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half to overpower Evansville. Hannah Luedtke and Leonie Doege combined for their third shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs dominated the first half, not allowing a shot and taking six of their own. Five different players tallied shots for Butler, with Halle Stelbasky leading the way with two.

Stelbasky would score the first goal of the game and the first of her senior campaign in the 15th minute. Freshman Katie Soderstrom played a ball into the box off a Bulldog free kick, which was finished past the Evansville goalie by Stelbasky.

Soderstrom would tally her second assist of the game in the 28th minute when she played the ball to sophomore Amanda Kowalski who found the back of the net for her first goal in 2018. The Bulldogs would take the 2-0 lead into halftime

Evansville held the Bulldogs scoreless for much of the second half and put up two shots by Montana Portenier and Molly Lear. Leonie Doege, who started the second half in goal for the Bulldogs, was not tested as the shots were not on frame.

Butler had multiple opportunities in the second half, taking 10 shots. The stalemate was broken in the 83rd minute when Carly Goehring  shot the ball past the goalkeeper, into the left upper ninety of the goal off an assist from Macy Miller. That is Goehring's first goal of the season and gave Butler a 3-0 lead with seven minutes to play.

The Bulldogs were not finished as Stelbasky tallied her second goal of the night, finishing another ball played into the box, this time by Taylor Crowe, to push the Bulldogs lead to four in the closing minutes.

Evansville starting goalkeeper Michaela Till (2-5-0) received the loss in goal for the Purple Aces, making three saves in the first half. Julie Rabe played the final 45 for the Purple Aces, making four saves. Hannah Luedtke is undefeated in 2018, moving to 5-0 with tonight's win.

Butler is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 9, hosting Northern Kentucky at 1PM, which will also serve as Senior Day. The match will be broadcast on Facebook Live.
