The Bulldogs challenged Georgetown Friday night in Griffith, Ind., marking the BIG EAST opener for both teams. Butler was victorious in two singles matches but was unable to come away with the win.
The Hoyas took two doubles wins to secure the point, topping
Emily Neal and
Sara Linn 6-3 in the No. 1 spot, and
Lauryn Padgett and
Sarah Monesmith 6-3 in the No. 2 spot.
Kendal Wilby and
Caroline McAuley were victorious in the No. 3 spot, beating the pair from Georgetown 6-3.
Singles play was highlighted by a win at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot. In the No. 5 spot,
Nina Bertino defeated Anna Short in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Caroline McAuley was victorious in the No. 6 spot, coming from behind to beat Renee Repella 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In the No. 1 spot,
Emily Neal lost a hard-fought battle to Sofie Moenster, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-8.
Sarah Monesmith fell in the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-4. The Hoyas defeated
Lauryn Padgett (6-4, 6-2) in the No. 3 spot and
Sara Linn (6-4, 6-3) to seal the victory.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow, taking on Valparaiso at 10 a.m. CT.
