St. John’s and Seton Hall Up Next for @ButlerVB

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler will host a pair of BIG EAST opponents inside Hinkle Fieldhouse this weekend with St. John's and Seton Hall visiting the Circle City. Friday night will be Youth Volleyball Day with all kids 12 and under receiving free admission. Saturday night will be a canned food drive. Help BU volleyball collect non-perishable food items for Gleaners Food Bank. Two cans equals a buy one ticket, get one ticket free promotion.

- Melody Davidson leads the BIG EAST in blocks per set (1.25).
- Butler ranks second in the BIG EAST in blocks per set (2.24).
- BU leads the conference in digs per set (16.31).
- Elizabeth LaBue ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.66).
- Anna Logan ranks 8th all-time at Butler with 1,375 kills in her Bulldog career. She needs 23 more to move into ninth.
- Logan ranks eighth in the BIG EAST in points per set (3.28).
- Megan Ramseyer ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (8.88)
- Butler trailed DePaul 8-2 in the fifth set, but came back to win 15-12.
- Elizabeth LaBue recorded four service aces in the second set vs. DePaul. BU went on a 10-0 run.
- LaBue has recorded 20+ digs in six matches.
- Melody Davidson recorded a career-high 11 blocks vs. DePaul, the most of any player in a BIG EAST match this year.
- Butler posted a season-high 15 team blocks in the win over DePaul.
- There were 23 ties and seven lead changes between Butler and DePaul.
- Brooke Gregory hit .542 in the win at Georgetown
- Shay Horn's first service ace of the season came at Georgetown.
 
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S: The Red Storm head into the weekend with a 10-7 overall record that includes a 2-2 mark against BIG EAST opponents. They defeated DePaul in the conference opener and are coming off a 3-0 win at home over Providence. The two losses came against the top two teams in the conference standings. Efrosini Alexakou ranks second in the BIG EAST in kills per set (4.02). She also ranks second on the team in digs with 117. The STJ dig leader is Amanda Sanabia with 220. Additional players to keep an eye on include setter Erica DiMaulo and middle blocker Ariadni Kathariou. DiMaulo leads the Red Storm with 27 service aces and Kathariou averages 1.17 blocks per set.
 
St. John's has players from all over the world on the roster. Student-athletes are from Hawaii, New York, Maryland, Texas, Columbia, Greece (2), Germany, Czech Republic (2), Italy, Japan, and Serbia.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. ST. JOHN'S: Butler leads the all-time series over St. John's 8-4. The Red Storm posted two wins over Butler in 2018, marking the first STJ sweep over BU since conference realignment in 2013. Butler swept St. John's in 2013, 2016, and 2017.
 
SCOUTING SETON HALL: The Pirates are 6-12 overall with a 1-3 mark against conference opponents. Their lone BIG EAST win came on Friday at home against Providence 3-2. Haylee Gasser leads the club with 178 kills. She is one of three players to have over 100+ kills at this point in the season. Maggie Cvelbar sets the offense while Raygan Murray is the team leader defensively.
 
The Pirates rank last in the league in opponent hitting percentage, assists, kills, and blocks.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SETON HALL: Butler leads the all-time series over Seton Hall 7-5.  The 'Dawgs swept the Pirates in 2018 with a 3-1 win at home and a 3-0 victory in New Jersey. BU also swept SHU in 2017.
 
NCAA RANKINGS: Butler ranks 34th in the NCAA in team attacks per set (37.12), 40th in digs per set (16.31) and 87th in blocks per set (2.24).
 
Melody Davidson leads the BIG EAST and ranks 16th in the NCAA in total blocks (81). Elizabeth LaBue ranks 35th in the nation in total digs (303).
 
TOP TO BOTTOM: Butler leads the BIG EAST in digs per set (16.31) and St. John's ranks last (12.39). On Saturday, keep an eye on team blocks. Butler ranks second in the conference in blocks per set and Seton Hall ranks last.
 
BROOKE TO LEAD BUTLER: Brooke Gregory was awesome the last time Butler played St. John's and Seton Hall. She led the team with 15 kills in the setback to St. John's in Hinkle Fieldhouse and posted 18 kills in the 3-1 win over Seton Hall.
 
DAVIDSON NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Melody Davidson led Butler to a 2-1 week as the Bulldogs moved into a tie for fourth place in the league standings. Davidson led the league in blocks per set (1.69). The sophomore totaled 22 blocks over the span of three matches. In the Bulldogs win over DePaul, Davidson recorded a career-high 11 blocks to go along with eight kills. Davidson lifted Butler to a five-set win over Georgetown with seven blocks and 10 kills.
 
Anna Logan made the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
 
UP NEXT: Butler will play at #14 Creighton on Friday, Oct. 18. The match gets underway at 7 PM. The weekend will round out with a 1 PM match at Providence on Sunday.
