How It Happened
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start, tabbing all three of their scores in the first 45.Â
Macy Miller drilled the ultimate unassisted game-winner just six minutes in, speeding past several Marquette defenders and into far bottom right corner of the goal.
Well into the second half,
Anja Savich gave
Katie Soderstrom a great lead pass that she was able to sneak past the Golden Eagle's keeper, Maddy Henry.
Ten minutes later, in the 44
th minute, freshman
Alana Wood chipped in her first goal as a Bulldog off a deflection in the goal box, giving Butler the 3-0 edge before halftime.
In the second period, the Bulldogs had a chance to add another layer of insurance on scoreboard with a penalty kick, but Henry denied the shot opportunity from Savich.
The Golden Eagles were able to get two shots on goal in the second period, but
Stephanie Rodriguez collected both to earn another clean sheet.

- Savich earned her fifth helper, moving her to 19 points this season.

Tournament Forecast
Butler's 5-1-2 BIG EAST mark gives the Bulldogs 17 points in the conference standings. Today's win clinches Butler not only a BIG EAST Tournament berth (the top six qualify), but also guarantees the Bulldogs can finish no lower than the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament.
Based on Thursday's result with Xavier, Butler will either receive a bye into the semifinals as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed, or would host a quarterfinal match at the Sellick Bowl as the No. 3 seed.
Halloween Showdown
Kick-off against Xavier is set for 7 p.m. at the Sellick Bowl on Thursday, Oct. 31. The match will be Butler's first time hosting a mid-week BIG EAST game this season.
