Last Second Field Goal Pushes Stetson Past Butler 30-27

DELAND, Fla. – Butler took a tough 30-27 loss at Stetson on Saturday afternoon as a 27-yard field goal attempt split the uprights with no time left on the game clock. Stetson used eight plays to drive 52 yards in just 1:38 to win the PFL opener.

How It Happened
Butler led Stetson for a majority of the afternoon, beginning with a 16-yard TD pass from Sam Brown to Stephen Dennis. Stetson scored on a long run less than two minutes later, and a second Stetson TD with 1:10 left in the first would give the home team an early 14-10 edge.

Butler got back on top in the opening stages of the second quarter. Nick Orlando took off on a QB draw and hit pay dirt from 62 yards away. The 'Dawgs would take their 17-14 lead into the half.

Three field goals would make up the next nine points of the contest. Jonny Messina hit from 20 and 18 yards for Stetson. Drew Bevelhimer's second make of the day was good from 27-yards out. He gave BU a 20-17 lead with 13:24 left in the fourth. His first make in the first quarter was good from 30 yards.

Butler broke a 20-20 tie with a six-yard TD pass from Brown to Johnny O'Shea. The Hatters would knot the score at 27-27 on a 21-yard TD pass from Gaven DeFilippo to Justin Jordan with 3:02 left.

A holding call would wipe out a nice 17-yard gain for Butler on the first play of their next possession. BU would go three and out after allowing Stetson to gain possession and hit the game-winning field goal with no time left.
