Kristen Spolyar scored a career-high 37 points in Butler's 82-60 win over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday night. Spolyar made 12 of her 23 field goal attempts. Four makes came from behind the arc and nine shots dropped from the free throw line.
How It Happened
Butler closed out the first half and second half on large scoring runs to secure a 22-point victory over Detroit Mercy at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs shot 44.6 percent from the field and would dish out an assist on 19 of their 29 made field goals.
Emilia Sexton hit back-to-back 3-point field goals to ignite a 12-1 scoring run that would end the first half with Butler ahead 42-25. Spolyar nearly had a double-double at the break with 15 points and eight rebounds. Butler also got a lift from
Genesis Parker and her 11 first half points. Parker only missed one shot from the field going 5-for-6.
Butler outscored Detroit 28-12 in the second quarter, but Detroit would win the third 15-14. The Titans made a push in the fourth quarter to get back within 10 points at the final media timeout. They outscored BU 15-9 over the first five minutes of the quarter to make the score 65-55.
Butler would move ahead to win the final frame 26-20. They ended the game on a 15-2 scoring run.
