@ButlerWSoccer Season Ends in BIG EAST Quarterfinal Shootout

The Bulldogs' season came to an end in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match against No. 6 seed Providence by way of penalty kicks. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of play, but the Friars advanced to the semifinals after taking the 5-4 edge in a PK shootout.

How it Happened:
The Bulldogs and Friars faced off for the second time in just nine days, this time at the Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.

The first half nearly went by without a score until sophomore Anja Savich used her head to net a goal in the 39th minute of play, assisted by a long range free kick from Amanda Kowalski.

Throughout the remainder of regulation, the Bulldogs made several attempts to increase the 1-0 lead, but Friars keeper, Shelby Hogan, made stop after stop.

In the 83rd minute, the Friars knotted the match at 1-1 after Hannah McNulty scored a goal off a rocket of a free kick, just out of Stephanie Rodriguez's reach.

The score remained tied through 90, 100 and ultimately 110 minutes, forcing the game to penalty kicks.

After five attempts from either team, the shootout stood at 4-4, pushing the PK's into a one-for-one set-up. Friar's Elayna Grillakis hit her mark, faking out Rodriguez to put the pressure on the Bulldogs. Payton Black stepped up to take Butler's sixth attempt, but Hogan made a diving stop, earning the 5-4 PK decision to advance in the tournament.
