INDIANAPOLIS – #12 Indiana picked up a 64-53 win over Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday night in front of a record crowd of 2,028 people. The 'Dawgs led by four after the first quarter, but would hit a rough patch before the half. With the loss, BU moves to 6-3 on the season while IU improves to 9-1.
The 'Dawgs came out strong with
Genesis Parker scoring five of the team's first seven points. Each side hit three of their first six field goals, but the Hoosiers would take a 9-7 edge at the first media timeout. Butler responded over the last five minutes and would end the first on a 7-0 scoring run to hold a 16-12 lead after 10 minutes.
The second quarter would tell the story as IU raced out on an 8-0 lead that gave them a 20-16 lead. The Hoosiers would outscore Butler 15-2 to take a 27-18 lead into halftime.
Butler would stick around in the second half.
Oumou Toure hit a 3-pointer from the wing to cut the lead to 10 at 38-28 with just over two to play in the third. That lead would hold heading into the fourth at 41-31.
#12 Indiana's 8-2 scoring run at the start of the fourth quarter would be too much to overcome and the Hoosiers would hang on for an 11-point victory.
Kristen Spolyar scored a team-high 15 points and Parker would end the game with 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Upe Atosu gave Butler solid minutes off the bench and would notch 12 points by hitting three 3-pointers.
The 'Dawgs were great from the free throw line hitting 15 of their 16 attempts. They also pushed IU into 21 turnovers.
Butler will return to action on Sunday with a 2 PM contest at home vs. High Point.
