#12/11 @ButlerMBB Closes Non-Conference Slate Saturday, Hosts Louisiana-Monroe



The Bulldogs close out the non-conference portion of the season Saturday, hosting Louisiana-Monroe at Hinkle Fieldhouse. 

Butler, ranked No. 12 and No. 11 in this week's national polls and No. 3 in the NCAA NET rankings, will put a 57-game non-conference home winning streak on the line, the longest active streak in the nation.

THE SERIES: This is the first meeting between the two programs. Butler is 5-2 all-time against teams currently in the Sun Belt Conference. That includes an 81-61 win over South Alabama in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

• Butler is fourth nationally, only allowing opponents an average of 55.1 points per game.
• Butler owns the nation's longest streak of consecutive non-conference home wins at 57.
• Seven of Butler's 12 games this season have come against power conference opponents. All are KenPom Top 80 teams.
• Butler is committing only 10.4 turnovers per game, which is seventh nationally.
• This is Butler's eighth 11-1 start since 2001-02. Prior to that, the last 11-1 start was 1930-31, Tony Hinkle's fifth season coaching Butler. 
• Butler's No. 11 and No. 12 national rankings are the program's highest since Jan. 23, 2017 (ranked No. 11 in both polls). 
• Butler became the first team this season to out-rebound Purdue (36-30); the Bulldogs are also the first team to score 70 points vs. Purdue in 2019-20.
Bryce Golden has led the Bulldogs in scoring in back-to-back games.
• The Bulldogs had four players in double figures against Purdue, the fourth game this season Butler has done that.
• Only four of Butler's 12 opponents have reached 60 points. 
• The Bulldogs are shooting 48.2 percent from the field, which leads the BIG EAST and is 32nd nationally.
• Butler's opponents have hit only 28.3 percent from behind the arc, the 34th-best defensive effort in the nation.
Kamar Baldwin has moved into tenth place on Butler's career scoring list; he now has 1,631 points.
Aaron Thompson now has 330 career assists, eighth on Butler's career list. 
• Thompson had a season-high 16 points (two shy of his career-high) in the Dec. 7 win over Florida. 
• Baldwin scored 31 points in the Dec. 3 win at Ole Miss, just missing his career-high by one point. He scored his 31 points on only 16 shots.
• Butler's 1.4 assist/turnover ratio is 17th nationally; individually, Thompson's 3.04 A/TO ratio is 14th in the NCAA.

TOUGH SLATE: Butler's non-conference schedule included seven power conference opponents. Six of those came in a seven-game stretch that concluded with Purdue at the Crossroads Classic Dec. 21. Only two of those seven power conference match-ups came at Hinkle Fieldhouse (Minnesota, Florida)

DAWG-GONE DEFENSE: Butler has limited opponents to an average of only 55.1 points per game. That mark is fourth nationally. Only four of Butler's opponents have eclipsed 60 points. The Bulldogs have been particularly good guarding the three-point line, as opponents have hit only 28.3 percent of their attempts from behind the arc. That defensive effort is 34th nationally. Only three of Butler's opponents have registered more assists than turnovers (Stanford, Ole Miss, Florida). Only two of Butler's opponents have shot better than 44 percent from the field (Missouri, Stanford). 

HANDLE WITH CARE: Butler is committing only 10.4 turnovers per game, which is the seventh-best mark nationally. The Bulldogs' 1.38 assist/turnover ratio is 17th in the NCAA.
