INDIANAPOLIS – Butler picked up a 76-55 win over Akron on Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Kristen Spolyar filled up the box score with 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Spolyar got to the rim often against the Zips and would score nine of her team-high 17 points from the free throw line.
Genesis Parker tied Spolyar for the team lead in scoring with 17 of her own. Parker was a sharpshooter in Butler's sixth win of the season, making five of her six field goals from 3-point range.
Katherine Strong helped the offense with 13 points and
Oumou Toure would add nine. The top BU player off the bench was
Upe Atosu with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Butler shot 61.5 percent in the first quarter to take a 26-14 lead. They went on a 9-0 scoring run in the first and would lead by as many as 18 near the end of the first half.
The Bulldogs won the rebound battle 40-23 and took advantage on the inside winning points in the paint 32-18. The BU defense also forced 16 turnovers which resulted in 32 points.
Butler will host the Indiana Hoosiers on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Tip is set for 7 PM.
