For the second day in a row, the Bulldogs split a pair of games at the Total Control Sports Invitational.
Butler opened play Saturday with a 9-4 win over Evansville. In the nightcap, the Bulldogs dropped a 5-4 decision to Loyola, the host of the weekend event at the Rosemont Dome.
Butler is now 2-2 on the young season. Â
The win over Evansville served as coach
Scott Hall's 200
th at Butler. The Bulldogs allowed two first-inning runs to the Purple Aces before taking control of the contest. By the end of the third inning, the game was tied 3-3. Butler followed that with a three-run fourth inning to take a 6-3 win.
In the closing game against Loyola, Butler overcame a three-run first inning by the Ramblers to eventually knot the game at 4-4 with two runs in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs turned six Loyola errors into four unearned runs.
Loyola scored the walk-off with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Kaitlin Doud had two hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Freshman
Karli Ricketts (0-2) got the start in the circle. She was able to scatter 13 hits, but allowed four earned runs, including the game-winner in the seventh. Ricketts also had a productive day at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in another.
The Bulldogs finish off play in the Chicagoland area Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. (Central) first pitch against Detroit Mercy.
