The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the 2019 season, posting a 13-10 win over Kent State at Varsity Field Friday afternoon in Indianapolis.
Butler's
Ashley Guerra had three goals and four assists to lead the Bulldogs' attack.
Haley Hallenbeck and
Sydney Pattison each added three goals.
Butler is now 1-2 on the season, with a quick turnaround coming as Central Michigan visits the Butler campus Sunday at noon. Kent State falls to 0-3.
Kent State scored the first three goals of the second half to turn an 8-6 Butler halftime lead into a KSU 9-8 advantage with 21:50 to play. From the point forward, Butler would outscore the visitors five goals to one.
That 5-1 run to close the game included a pair of goals from Guerra and two more from Hallenbeck.
The Bulldogs scored the first three tallies of the game and kept an advantage throughout the first half. Kent State's only lead was at 9-8 and Butler never led by more than the three-goal final margin.
Butler also got goals from
Ashley Steffes (who had two assists),
Karina Latsko, Kailee Callaghan, and
Lindsey Schreiber.
Amanda Rumsey picked up the win, making nine saves on the afternoon.
Butler took 31 shots, compared to 21 for Kent State.
Lluna Katz had three goals for Kent State; Grace Merrill made 10 saves.
Butler returns to action Sunday at noon, hosting Central Michigan at Varsity Field.
