CHICAGO – The DePaul Blue Demons posted a 76-62 win over Butler on Sunday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons notched their 21st win of the season on Senior Day. With the setback, Butler moves to 20-7 on the year.
Tori Schickel led Butler in scoring with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. She was one of four Bulldogs to hit double figures joining
Whitney Jennings (12),
Kristen Spolyar (11) and
Naira Caceres (10).
DePaul was led by Chante Stonewall who recorded a game-high 17 points and guard Ashton Millender who hit four 3-pointers to notch 15 points.
DePaul went 14-35 from 3-point range (40%) to pull out the victory. They also won the battle on the glass 41-31.
Butler got off to a slow start which led to a 10-point DePaul lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs shot just 3-for-11 from the field and did not have a single assist. The Blue Demons knocked down four of their seven shots from behind the arc and won the hustle points with eight offensive rebounds.
Millender would hit two quick 3-pointers at the start of the second quarter, allowing DePaul to win the second 20-14. They held a 39-23 advantage at the half.
The Bulldogs made some adjustments at the break and scored the first seven points of the second half to get back within 10 at 39-30. Head Coach Doug Bruno would call a timeout, but BU would move forward to win the third 21-12. The Bulldogs shot 9-for-18 in the third and would hit three 3-pointers during that stretch.
BU would get within six points at 55-49 with 8:40 left in the game, but a 6-0 Blue Demon scoring run would follow to give the home team at 61-49 edge.
The final buzzer would sound with Butler taking a 76-62 loss in their final regular season road game of the season.
Butler will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse next weekend to end the regular season. The Bulldogs will host Georgetown on Friday night and Senior Day will follow on Sunday in a 2 PM tip vs. Villanova.
