Butler men's tennis head coach
Daniel Pollock has announced five new additions to the 2019-20 squad today, Feb. 4. These talented players come from all over the world and will join the team in the fall of 2019.
"It's been a recruiting whirlwind since arriving in mid-August but every message, phone call, road trip, and flight has been completely worth it to see this class come together the way it has." said Pollock. "Each young man brings with them a reputation for hard work and attention to detail on and off the court, along with a determination to make Butler a force to be reckoned with."
This is Coach Pollock's first recruiting class and he is excited to see what these five recruits will bring to Indianapolis and the Butler Bubble.
"Each of them fully understand what kind of student-athlete we want in our program and have fully bought in to our approach. I'm confident the future is bright for this team and with a lot of hard work, this group can achieve great things. Go Dawgs!"
Michael Karr – Darien, Conn. / Darien High School
A four star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.com and a top-5 ranked player in New England, Karr has been a regular competitor in national level events. He won four matches in the National Clay Court Championships and won two matches at the Winter National Championships.
Karr on choosing Butler: "Everyone felt very welcoming on my visit. Butler has a great blend of high level Division I tennis and strong academics. I also loved the feel of the Midwest."
Coach Pollock on Karr: "Michael will fit in seamlessly with our culture here at Butler. He's a high achieving student with a strong desire to succeed in the classroom and see how far he can improve his tennis in our system. We can't wait to get working with him in the fall."
Zachary Trimpe – Edwardsville, Ill. / Edwardsville High School
Trimpe is ranked as a three-star recruit on tennisrecruiting.com and is currently ranked 187
th nationally among high school seniors. Trimpe has had an excellent high school career, earning the USTA Missouri Valley Section Sportsmanship Award to go along with his 2017 Illinois Doubles State Championship victory.

Trimpe on choosing Butler: "I really liked the campus, the athletic facilities and the great academic reputation of the business school. Â Coach Pollock's driven attitude of becoming a championship contender in the BIG EAST conference was also a big factor in my decision. Â I look forward to working hard and making an impact towards that goal in the fall of 2019."
Coach Pollock on Trimpe: "Zach is true Butler material. His work ethic on and off the court is why I'm so certain we've found a diamond in the rough in him. He will be a great representative of what our program stands for in the classroom, in the community, and on the court. We look forward to welcoming him here in fall."

Filip Tensing – Stockholm, Sweden / Stockholm Idrott Sports School
Tensing will make the trek across the pond to come to Indianapolis after an impressive junior career. Tensing has never been ranked outside the top-10 nationally and finished as the top-ranked junior player in Sweden multiple times. Tensing also holds multiple junior national championships and currently holds the national junior doubles title.

Tensing on choosing Butler: "I really enjoyed visiting the campus, the city of Indianapolis, and meeting the coaches to understand their vision for the team. It was great to hear about the positive experience and improvement of the younger players that will be my teammates. Overall, I think Butler is a great school that will be a great fit for me and I am really excited to join the team and work hard."
Coach Pollock on Tensing: "Filip's reputation proceeds him. Every person I talked to immediately spoke about his work ethic, his passion for the sport, and how great he is to be around and to coach. His familiarity with high level competition stands him in good stead as he enters college, and his hunger for further success will be a driving force for the whole team. We're excited to get going with him in August."

Olof Wiklund – Gothenburg, Sweden / Kitas Gymnasium School
Currently ranked seventh overall in the Swedish U18 rankings, Wiklund comes to Butler looking to make an impact. Wiklund was a member of the team that won the Swedish National Team Championships and has achieved as high as a 583 overall ranking in the ITF Junior Rankings.

Wiklund on choosing Butler: "It is the perfect school for me. Butler offers a great level of academics and also a great opportunity to develop my tennis. I'm very grateful to be given the opportunity to be part of the team and I can't wait to get started."

Coach Pollock on Wiklund: "Olof is a pretty understated guy that lets his tennis game, his work rate, and his results do the talking. He's a very intelligent young man who is excited to see how far he can take his game as part of our program. I think he's going to be rock solid for us and I can't wait to get on court with him.

Alvaro Huete Vadillo – Madrid, Spain / IES Juan Gris School
During his junior career, Vadillo has been ranked as high as sixth in the Spanish Junior Rankings and in the top 120 of the Men's National Rankings. He also played at the No. 1 and 2 spots for the team that won the Madrid Team Championships and made the semi-finals of the Spanish Team Championships. Vadillo has been ranked as high as 760 in the ITF Junior World Rankings.
