Ricketts in the Circle and Doud's Three RBI Lead @ButlerSoftball to 7-1 Win Over Evansville

The Bulldogs carried over momentum from Sunday's win over DePaul to register a Tuesday night non-conference victory at Evansville. Butler topped the Purple Aces by a score of 7-1.

Butler is now 11-19 on the season, while Evansville falls to 12-17. The Bulldogs also got the better of Evansville Feb. 9, the second day of the 2019 season.

Freshman Karli Ricketts took care of business in the circle, keeping the host Purple Aces at bay throughout the contest. Ricketts went the distance, picking up her third win of the season. She struck out eight Evansville batters, while allowing just a single run in the home half of the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs got out early on Evansville and Purple Aces starter Izzy Vetter, putting up a 3-spot in the top of the first inning. The lead extended to 4-0 in the top of the third with a Kaitlin Doud sacrifice fly.

It was Doud who sparked the Butler offense once again in the sixth, leading off with a home run to right field. It marked Doud's second home run of the season. Doud had three RBI in the game.

Junior Christina Candotti squared up a full-count pitch in the top of the seventh, sending it over the right-center fence for her first home run of the season. Her blast capped the scoring at 7-1.

Shortstop Maddie Moore was the lone Bulldog with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 on the day. Payton Longest had an RBI double for the Bulldogs in the sixth inning, while freshman Bri Avery swiped the fifth stolen base of her Butler career.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, hosting UIC at the Butler Softball Field. The 4 p.m. first pitch will be streamed live on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page.
