**This story was updated from its original post after a Green Bay hit was changed to an error the following day.
Freshman
Karli Ricketts posted the most dominating performance in the circle of her young Butler career, tossing a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Green Bay Friday.
Ricketts allowed only one walk in 5.0 shutout innings. She struck out five Phoenix batters.
Eight different Bulldogs had a single hit for the Bulldogs in the contest. Ricketts' no-hitter was the second game of a Friday doubleheader for the Bulldogs at the Saluki Invitational on the Southern Illinois University campus in Carbondale, Ill.
Including a tough, seventh-inning loss to open the Saluki Invitational Friday, Butler is now 7-9 on the season after the pair of results.
The win over Green Bay was also the Bulldogs' most impressive offensive performance of the young season, providing Ricketts with more than enough offensive support.
Butler's first run came in the second inning on a
Madi Christiansen sacrifice fly.
Most of the damage followed in the later innings as Butler scored four runs in the top of the fourth and six runs in the top of the fifth.
The four-run fourth came on one swing of the bat by senior
Kaitlin Doud. With the bases loaded and one out, Doud sent a drive over the center field fence for a grand slam and her first home run of the season.
Butler got into run-rule territory in the fifth inning behind RBI singles from
Maddie Moore, Christiansen, and
Emily Perrelle, followed by a two-run double from
Payton Longest. Butler's sixth run of the inning scored on an error.
In the first game of the day, UIC used two runs in the top of the seventh inning to post a 3-2 win.
Butler took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a Ricketts home run to center field. It was the first home run of the freshman's Butler career. UIC answered with a single run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bulldogs took the 2-1 lead on a
Jenna Foreman to open the fifth. The senior speedster then stole second before scoring on a
Sammy Andersen single.
UIC's seventh inning rally began with a pair of one-out singles. After a Butler error moved the runners to second and third, the second out of the inning came on a strikeout. However, the Bulldogs would allow two runs to score on the second error of the inning.
Alyssa Graves took the hard-luck loss, as only one of the three runs she allowed were earned. She struck out four UIC batters in pitching the complete game. Ricketts and Foreman each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs continue action in Carbondale with a pair of games Saturday. Butler meets Miami (Ohio) and Iowa at 4:45 p.m., and 7 p.m. (Central), respectively. Live stats for both games are available with links posted on ButlerSports.com.
