The Bulldogs return to BIG EAST action this weekend, hosting Georgetown for a three-game series in Indianapolis. The teams are scheduled for a Saturday doubleheader followed by a single game Sunday.
Saturday's doubleheader will air on the Butler Bulldogs Facebook page and the BIG EAST Digital Network will showcase Sunday's game.
Butler took two of the three games the two teams played last year in the nation's capital.
Through three weekends of BIG EAST play, Butler stands at 2-4 in conference play. Georgetown enters at 2-6. The top four teams in the BIG EAST standings qualify for the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament. St. John's (7-1) and DePaul (6-1) are in the top two spots in the conference standings.
The Bulldogs are coming off a strong midweek showing, posting a 3-2 win over Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday in Indianapolis. Starter
Alyssa Graves and freshman
Karli Ricketts combined to allow only four hits and one earned run over the seven innings in the circle. The duo struck out a total of seven Mastodons.
Graves leads the team with a 2.93 ERA. She has 122 strikeouts in her 107.2 innings of work. Graves matched her career-high with 12 strikeouts in an eight-inning win at Seton Hall Sunday. It marked the second time this season that Graves registered double-digit strikeouts.
Ricketts enters weekend play with a 3.89 ERA. Her last three appearances in the circle have included 16.0 innings of work and only two earned runs. She has 16 strikeouts during that stretch.
Freshman
Lauren Fey leads the Bulldogs with a .340 average. Her versatility has been on display recently as she has seen time both in the outfield and at second base. Fey has nine multi-hit games this season, including a 5-for-5 performance against La Salle March 17. Those five hits tied Butler's single-game record.
Jenna Foreman is hitting .331 on the season and her 39 hits lead the Bulldogs. She has 27 stolen bases in 31 attempts. That figure easily leads the BIG EAST. Foreman has 11 multi-hit games in 2019. She had a season-best four hits against Evansville Feb. 9. Foreman now has a 103 career stolen bases, the most in Butler history. Four of those stolen bases came vs. Holy Cross Feb. 16. Foreman set Butler single-season marks in 2018 with 63 hits and 35 stolen bases, earning NFCA All-Region second team honors.
Two of
Kaitlin Doud's team-best four home runs have come so far in April. She and fellow senior
Sammy Andersen are tied for the team-lead with 17 RBI.
Following the weekend series with Georgetown, the Bulldogs take a midweek break from BIG EAST play to host Eastern Illinois Wednesday in a non-conference contest. Butler travels to Creighton next weekend.
