The No. 9 seed Bulldogs fell to the No. 8 seed Georgetown in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament Thursday morning, 4-0. Butler ends the year with an 11-14 record, including a 1-6 mark in conference play.
The Hoyas came out strong, taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 courts to clinch the first point of the match.
To complete the sweep, Georgetown won singles matches at the No. 3, 4, and 6 courts.
Lauryn Padgett and
Caroline McAuley both won their first sets at the No. 2 and 5 courts before their matches were ended.
With the win, Georgetown advances to the quarterfinals and will take on top-seeded Xavier, Friday at 12:30 p.m.
