The Bulldogs (3-9) took a 19-6 loss at Cincinnati Tuesday afternoon. Butler could not hold off a strong first half from the Bearcats who outscored the Bulldogs, 14-2. Cincinnati moves to 7-5 on the season.
The Bearcats used the strong first half to put the Bulldogs away early. Butler scored four goals in the second half, compared to only five from the Bearcats, but the advantage held by Cincinnati was too large for Butler to recover.
Ashley Guerra and
Haley Hallenbeck had Butler's two goals of the first half. The goals were scored back-to-back to put the Bulldogs within one of the Bearcats (3-2), but Cincinnati ended the first half on an 11-0 run.
Butler scored three goals early in the second half, as
Holly Hall,
KK Callaghan, and Guerra each found the back of the net. Hall had the Bulldogs' final goal of the second half with just over four minutes to play.
Kylie Nause and Kate Carney led the Bearcats with four goals each. Monica Borzillo added three goals and three assists. Giuliana Durso made two saves in her seventh win of the season.
The Bulldogs used two goalies in the cage, with
Amanda Rumsey receiving the start. She made five saves in her 25 minutes of play.
Katie McGrath entered the game with five minutes to go in the first half, and played the entire second half, making one save. Rumsey (3-8) received the loss.
Butler is back on the road on Saturday, taking on Marquette in a BIG EAST match-up beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
