@ButlerWLacrosse Takes 16-3 Loss at Marquette


The Bulldogs fell in their second BIG EAST game of the season Saturday, taking a 16-3 setback to Marquette in Milwaukee. Butler falls to 3-10 (0-2 BIG EAST). The Golden Eagles tally their first BIG EAST win to move to 1-1 in conference play and 7-7 overall.

Madeline Hooks scored Butler's first goal of the game with 8:25 to go in the first half, cutting the Marquette lead to 3-1. The Golden Eagles then went on a 4-0 run to end the half. The Bulldogs scored one more with less than a minute to go with Holly Hall finding the back of the net, but Marquette would take a 7-2 lead into the break.

Marquette opened the second half hot, scoring two goals to open the half. Ashley Guerra answered with her 25th goal of the game, but it was not enough as the Golden Eagles held the Bulldogs scoreless for the remainder of the game and scored seven more of their own.

Grace Gabriel led Marquette with five goals and two assists. Charlotte McGuire and Shea Garcia both notched hat tricks for the Golden Eagles. Jules Horning received the win in goal, moving to 5-7 on the season.

Amanda Rumsey made the start in goal for the Bulldogs, making 12 saves. Katie McGrath played the final 16 minutes in goal and made five saves.

The Bulldogs return to the field on Wednesday, April 10 with a 7PM match at Notre Dame. Butler returns to its home field on April 13 for a BIG EAST match-up against Denver. First draw is set for Noon.
