The Bulldogs fell to Villanova on Saturday afternoon, taking a 17-5 setback in their final home game of the season. The Wildcats took a 12-3 advantage into the half and did not look back as they held the Bulldogs to only two goals in the second half.
Butler's four seniors -
Adilyn Smith,
Carly Hewitt,
Jordan Fischbach, and
Haley Hallenbeck - were recognized prior to the game.
With the win, Villanova moves to 10-6, 3-1 BIG EAST. Butler falls to 3-13 and 0-4 in conference play.
Ashley Guerra had Butler's first goal of the game, finding the back of the net in the second minute of play, shortly after Villanova went up 1-0. From there, the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run before
Holly Hall scored on a free position attempt.
Ashley Steffes scored her eighth goal of the season after Guerra, cutting the Villanova lead to 8-3.
From there, Villanova would close the second half on a 4-0 run to take the lead into the half.
Villanova began the second half hot, scoring two goals before
Sydney Pattison found the back of the net. Villanova scored three more before Pattison scored her second goal of the game with just 30 seconds to play.
Katie Comerford led the Wildcats with four goals, while Liz Trojan added two and Ashley Lynch added three assists. Alexa Moro received the win in goal, making one save.
Amanda Rumsey received the loss in the cage for Butler, making two saves.
The Bulldogs wrap up their regular season on the road at Old Dominion on April 27. First draw is set for 11 a.m.
